Isotridecanol / ITDA

Properties of Isotridecanol (ITDA)

Isotridecanol (ITDA) is an organic chemical compound belonging to the group of alcohols. Under normal conditions, isotridecanol is a colorless, faintly odorous, water-insoluble liquid. This high-purity C13 alcohol is an important intermediate in the production of surfactants. The designation “iso” refers to the methyl group that branches off at the penultimate carbon atom, the end of the C12 carbon chain opposite the OH group. The systematic name is therefore 11-methyl-1-dodecanol. With a content of nearly 100% C13 alcohols, ITDA is considered a particularly high-quality specialty petrochemical.

Uses of Isotridecanol (ITDA)

Isotridecanol serves as an intermediate for the production of surfactants and plasticizers.

ITDA is used in high-quality industrial applications, such as in the production of cleaning agents and lubricants. In the form of specialty esters, it is also used in high-quality paints and paint resins.

Isotridecanol is approved in the EU under the INCI name of the same name as a fragrance in cosmetic products and preparations.
