dear citizens of the city of Steinfurt,

The operational area of Möller Chemie GmbH & Co. KG is subject to the regulations of the Lower-Class Major Accident Ordinance. The relevant information is part of the permitting process under the Federal Immission Control Act and is on file with the Münster District Government.

This information is part of our legal obligation and our safety precautions. It does not mean that the risk of an incident has increased.

Below, we provide information about our activities at the site, the hazardous substances present, and what to do in the event of an incident.

Operations-related activities

Möller Chemie trades in and stores chemical raw materials for industrial applications. We source these materials directly from manufacturers worldwide, ensuring compliance with all REACH and specification-related requirements.

Our portfolio includes, among other things, acrylates, amines, antioxidants, solids, resins, complexing agents, solvents, paraffin waxes, vegetable oils, acids, alkalis, UV absorbers, plasticizers, and white oils.

Delivery is made in closed containers or by tanker truck. Products delivered by tanker truck are temporarily stored in our tank farm and then transferred into containers or back into tanker trucks.

In addition, we assist our customers with product-related inquiries. This includes dissolving, mixing, melting, as well as filling and decanting chemical raw materials.

Hazardous substances present

Various substances covered by the Major Accidents Ordinance are handled or stored on the premises. These substances have the following properties, among others:

Toxic


e.g., methanol

Highly flammable, highly flammable, or flammable


e.g., n-pentane
e.g., special-purpose gasoline
e.g., thinners

Hazardous to the environment


e.g., copper sulfate

Flammable


e.g., hydrogen peroxide

Definition of a major incident

An incident occurs when, despite all safety measures taken, hazardous substances are released or catch fire.

Potential effects may result from toxic fumes or smoke development during a fire.

The release of water-polluting liquids is contained by the existing sewer shut-off system on our premises.

What to Do in Case of an Emergency

When used as intended, the substances listed do not pose any hazards. We implement comprehensive technical and organizational measures to prevent accidents or limit their impact. These include regular maintenance of the facilities as well as periodic drills with the local fire department.

Should an incident nevertheless occur, please observe the following instructions:

Alerts are triggered by:

  • Public address announcements by the fire department or police
  • Radio announcements

Guidelines:

  • Do not stay outdoors – go inside your house or apartment
  • Close windows and doors
  • Turn off ventilation and air conditioning systems
  • Notify immediate neighbors
  • Go to rooms on upper floors that are as far from the exterior as possible
  • Keep streets and driveways clear for emergency responders
  • Stay away from the scene
  • Call emergency numbers only in the event of a genuine emergency to keep the lines clear
  • Contact a doctor if you experience any health issues
  • Follow the instructions of emergency responders at all times

The all-clear is given by:

  • Public address announcements by the fire department or police
  • Radio announcements
