Raw materials for polyurethane: catalysts, polyols, and additives

Our product portfolio for the polyurethane processing industry

Polyurethane is everywhere and nowhere. In the mattress foam that ensures a comfortable night’s sleep. In the insulation that keeps out the cold in winter. In the car seat that retains its shape for years. In the shoe sole that cushions and absorbs shock. In the household sponge that absorbs water. This versatility stems from the choice of raw materials: depending on the formulation, the same basic components can be turned into soft upholstery or rigid insulation, flexible foam or a stable molded part.

What they all have in common: they require reliable raw materials of consistent quality. We supply the foam and polyurethane industry with specialty products made in Europe, such as catalysts, polyols, and additives. We support you in selecting the right raw materials for your formulation, whether for existing recipes or when switching to lower-emission or recyclable alternatives.

Typical Applications

  • Catalysts for flexible and rigid foams
  • Blowing agents for lightweight PU rigid foams for building insulation
  • Stabilizers and additives for durable PU products
  • System components for PUR adhesives, polyurethane coatings, and elastomers
  • Components for low-emission and recyclable PU systems

Frequently Asked Questions

Regarding PU/PUR raw materials

How consistent are the raw material and batch properties at Möller Chemie?

Consistent raw material quality is crucial in foam production and PUR processing, as even minor variations can affect the structure, hardness, or reaction properties of the final product. We work with clearly defined specifications and quality-assured processes. Every batch is documented and traceable. You will receive certificates of analysis (CoA) with every delivery.

What alternatives does Möller Chemie offer in the event of supply shortages?

When a raw material becomes scarce, we identify suitable alternatives from our portfolio and supplier network. In doing so, we assess whether the alternative can be used in your existing process or whether adjustments will be necessary. We proactively notify you of any foreseeable shortages. Our own warehouse capacity also enables us to make deliveries on short notice.

Are Möller Chemie's PUR raw materials compliant with REACH and CLP?

Our raw materials comply with the applicable requirements of REACH and CLP. We will provide you with up-to-date safety data sheets containing all the relevant information for your risk assessment. We are also happy to assist you with any additional regulatory questions and required documentation.

Which raw materials are suitable for low-emission or sustainable PUR applications?

Our product range includes raw materials specifically designed for low-emission and more sustainable PUR applications. We ensure that technical requirements and sustainability goals are aligned. We work with you to determine which options can be reliably processed. We also advise you on recycling—whether mechanical or chemical recycling—and support you in selecting suitable approaches and adapting your formulations.

Is polyurethane recyclable?

Polyurethane can be recycled in various ways. In mechanical recycling, foam materials are shredded and reused, for example as filling material in upholstered furniture or as carpet underlay. In chemical recycling, the polymer chains are broken down—a process known as glycolysis, which recovers polyols, for example. Energy recovery is also an option. The most appropriate solution depends on the specific material and its intended use. We support you in finding suitable recycling pathways and designing formulations that are more conducive to recycling.
